About Boston College

With a beautiful campus and a prestigious academic reputation, visiting Boston College is a must-do activity on a trip to the Boston area. Boston College was chartered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1863. The beautiful and historic buildings and vibrant student atmosphere will be worth a visit. Free tours of campus area available and the area surrounding campus contains lots of dining and lodging options.

Lovers of architecture in particular will enjoy Boston College's campus. Devlin Hall was built in 1925 and immediately awarded the most beautiful building in Boston by the Boston Society of Architects. The Collegiate Gothic style is characteristic of many of the buildings making up Boston College's campus.

Runners and sports fans will also be delighted with a visit to Boston College as it contains part of the course for the Boston Marathon, the world's oldest Marathon race. The race first began 1897 and more than 20,000 runners compete in it each year. The portion of the race that runs through Boston College comes at mile 21 of the 26.2 mile race, just after runners go up the infamous heartbreak hill.

With a main campus of 118 acres and an observatory and surrounding area visitors will have plenty to see at Boston College. The McMullen Museum of Art located on campus in Devlin Hall houses various exhibits throughout the year. The museum has been recognized nationally and internationally for its contributions to culture and history. There are free group tours available at the museum. Boston College is also home to eight research libraries with more than two million printed volumes between them.

There are numerous places to eat in the area around the college. Diners have the option of enjoying Italian restaurants, sandwich shops and bistros.
